Stephen Burke - Chief Executive, Counsel and Care
In March 2005, Stephen Burke became Chief Executive of Counsel and Care, the national charity getting the best care and support for older people.
Previously he was Director of the national childcare charity Daycare Trust from 2000. He led the charity's campaign for childcare for all, promoting children's centres in every community and securing substantial new investment.
Stephen has twenty five years' experience in public relations, journalism and fundraising. From 1996 to 2000, he was a communications consultant to national organisations including Daycare Trust, Family Policy Studies Centre, Better Government for Older People, British Society of Gerontology and Development Trusts Association. Previously he was head of external relations for Community Service Volunteers and head of public relations for Crime Concern after spells with the Association of Metropolitan Authorities, National Union of Teachers and NALGO. His work has been recognised in several major PR awards.
Stephen Burke is currently leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council where he has been a councillor since 1994. He was chair/cabinet lead member for social services from 1995-1999 and has been chair of the Association of London Government's health and social care forum and a non-executive director of Hammersmith & Fulham Primary Care Trust. He is a governor of a primary school and a children's centre, and a trustee of several national and local voluntary organisations. Stephen is also a Board member of ACEVO (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations) and recently sat on the Family Commission.

Rt Hon Jim Fitzpatrick MP - Parliamentary Under Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry
Jim Fitzpatrick is Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Employment Relations and Postal Services. He is also Minister for London His portfolio also covers: ACAS, Better Regulation, Insolvency Service, Company Investigations and the Shareholder Executive.
Elected Labour MP for Popular and Canning Town in 1997, he currently has a majority of 7129. The Constituency borders Bethnal Green and West Ham in the North. It includes the boroughs of Newham and Tower Hamlets, although boundary changes are likely before the next election. It is extremely poor overall with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Life expectancy is six years lower than in Westminster - but this is contrasted with the wealth of the Docklands developments known as Canary Wharf . The Constituency is one of the most ethnically diverse of all the constituencies in the UK which presents a number of challenges.
Born 4 April 1952 in Glasgow, Jim moved to London 1974 and joined the London Fire Brigade, leaving in 1997. Jim is married to Dr Sheila Fitzpatrick and has one son and one daughter from a previous marriage.
Jim is a devoted football fan and supports West Ham United, he also enjoys cricket, rugby and sports generally. He is a member of the Bangladesh all party parliamentary group. In addition to this he supports a number of charities.

Imelda Redmond - Chief Executive, Carers UK
Imelda joined Carers UK in January 1998 as Director of Development. In May 2000 Imelda was appointed to the position of Deputy Chief Executive with a remit to lead the organisation's activities on policy and campaigning, advice and information, training and development of new projects. Imelda was appointed Chief Executive of Carers UK in September 2003.
Immediately prior to her joining Carers UK, Imelda was a Director of a charity providing a range of services to families with disabled children. She is the Vice Chair of Contact a Family, a national charity for families with disabled children.

Madeleine Starr - Carers and Employment Manager, Carers UK
Madeleine Starr is Carers and Employment Manager at Carers UK, the UK's leading lobbying and campaigning organisation of and for carers. She currently manages the Action for Carers and Employment (ACE National) partnership, led by Carers UK and funded by the European Social Fund's EQUAL Community Initiative Programme.
She has been with Carers UK since 2000, and has worked in the field of carers and employment since 1998.

Matt Dean - Founder, Byrne Dean
Matt worked as an employment lawyer in the City from 1991 until the creation of byrne·dean in September 2003. Between 1995 and 2003 he was with Simmons & Simmons where from 1998 he was Head of its innovative Employment Law Training team.
Matt's primary professional focus since 1998 has been on developing and delivering interactive management training products and explaining employment law in an accessible way. Matt's extensive experience of training, coaching and mentoring in 16 different legal jurisdictions over the last eight years has broadened his expertise away from just employment law to encompass diversity, human resource management and cultural and behavioural change. byrne·dean is a multi-disciplinary consultancy transforming working environments.
Matt chaired the Training Sub-Committee of the Employment Lawyers Association between 2002 and April 2006 and was chair of the Islington Law Centre from 1998 - 2004.

Lynne Keeble - Product Manager - Childcare Vouchers, Accor
Lynne Keeble joined Accor Services in October 2005 as 'Product Manager - Childcare Vouchers', following 4 years working for a leading Employee Benefits Provider. Lynne is a Chartered Marketer holding a BA (Hons) in English Literature and a PostGraducate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
With over 8 years experience in marketing Lynne is actively involved in all aspects of the marketing strategy for Childcare Vouchers with particular emphasis on product development and enhancing the experience for companies, parents & providers.
Lynne is the main spokesperson for Childcare Vouchers and also maintains the longstanding relationships with Accor Services' childcare charity partners and manages the network of providers.

Andy Lake is the Editor of Flexibility.co.uk, the online journal of flexible work. He is co-author of The Complete Guide to Flexible Work.
Andy has more than 10 years experience of implementing flexible work programmes in large organisations, and has been involved in numerous research projects looking at the economic, social and environmental impacts of new forms of work organisation.

Julie Marsan - HR Director, the DX & SMS Group
Julia Marsan has been an HR professional for 25 years after commencing her career in Marks and Spencer in the early 80's. She has undertaken a number of HR Director roles in a variety of business sectors from manufacturing and utilities to telecoms and support services. Her most recent role is as HR Director of the DX Group created from the acquisition by Candover, a private equity house, of DX Network Services the next day business mail company and Secure Mail Secure Services who carry secure mail.
Julia is married and has two children one with a rare genetic disorder who has severe learning difficulties and epilepsy and her youngest child has mild cerebral palsy. Julia is Vice Chairman of Governors of the special needs school which her daughter attends and has long has an interest in carers rights at work.

Julie Hawkins - HR Manager, Higher Nature
Julie Hawkins has worked in Personnel for the past 14 years. Twelve years were spent in the care sector. Julie's experience includes a full generalist role, working with acas to negotiate a Partnership Agreement with 3 unions, writing all policies and procedure documentation, writing and delivering training sessions in-house, managing TUPE transferred nursing staff, closing nursing homes, relocating all residents, 1 total rebuild and 2 refurbishment projects and grand re-openings.
In April 2005 Julie moved to Higher Nature, a company involved in the health food supplement and vitamin business and embarked again on writing policies and procedures, contracts and documentation. Julie is in a stand-alone role responsible for all HR, health and safety, facilities and general day-to-day management and for 5 months this year was main carer for her mother-in-law, combining care responsibilities with a full-time job.
